Notes |
- My great grandfather then funny thing he was General Foreman on the building of the Court House in Cork City. He worked for Sam Hill and they he was married to a fairly well off lady from a family of Butter merchants. But he was a very capable man and old Seannie Sisk always used to ask after him. - Connie Fahy 9 Dec 2006
Matt, William Fahy also worked with Samuel Hill building Corkbeg Church in Aghada, Co Cork. It was Consecrated in 1881. St Michael and All Angels Church, Corkbeg, (Corkbeg - which means little Cork). Built on the site of an old church which dated from 1291 - Jim Fahy 18 Feb 2017.
St Michael & All Angels, Corkbeg
St Michael and all Angels Church, Corkbeg, is located
on the outskirts of Whitegate village, close to
Ireland's only oil refinery. It share the site with the
ruins of and earlier 14th century Church. The present building
was dedicated in 1881, and no expense was spared in
it's construction. About half of the cost was borne by
the Penrose Fitzgerald family, who were the main
land owners in the area. It is an ornate and beautiful
Church, neo-gothic in style, and contains some fine
quality stained glass. It has recently been re-roofed
and storm glazed. It contains some artefacts from the
old medieval church, and an interesting memorial in
the form of and "Honor Roll", which contains the
names of all the men form the local area who fell in
the First World War.
