Lena was John's 1st wife died leaving three children after her. (Lena O'Mahoney told me this but as Lizzie May O'Mahony was born in 1908 and John and Maggie Fitzpatrick married 7 Jul 1907. Dennie the eldest was born 31 Oct 1893 that would make him 21 when he got married and old enough along with John Bawn to have joined the army during the first world war.

John and Maggie Fitzpatrick married 7 Jul 1907, within three months after Lena died. Marriage cert to Maggie confirms he was a widower
Lena was already a Mahony before she got married to John. She came from Mayfield and was a very nice woman.
Lena in our phone call mentioned that John's wife was called Lena Herlihy from Mayfield at first so I am a little confused. Investigate this aspect. She meant that John's wife (Helena), had a sister Nora and her Daughter Lena married a Timothy Herlihy and thus became Lena Herlihy - Matt Falvey
Grace O'Brien said, I also spoke to Nora Curran, . Daughter of Nora Mahoney who was the sister of Lena Mahony wife of "Stick", John Mahony. Nora Mahony's children were Nan, Cain, John, Kathleen, Nora, Mamie, & Lena who was Nora Curran's Mom
The interesting thing here is the name of the second born- Cain. The IGI records have a Father Kane Mahony and Mother Ellen Walsh having a child Helena Mahony 1 May 1872 Cork Ireland. Now as Cain/Kane is such an unusual name I am pretty certain that Nora Mahony must have named this child after her father. This then would make him the father of Helena too, so the IGI record must be of the Helena that married Stick, John O'Mahony. I would not normally make such a presumption but this seems fairly clear cut.
Also seeming to confirm the theory is that John and Helena named their daughter Ellen, which is the same as Ellen Walsh I also did a parent FamilySearch parent search using the IGI and found Cain/Kane Mahony and Ellen Walsh were also parents to Hanah, John & Hannorah. I have listed them also using the same theory. having a daughter of Cain/Kane and Ellen named Hannorah and Helena having a sister Nora seems to make the theory stronger. [4, 5, 6, 9, 12, 13, 14]
