It's just two years ago to-day
I stood by an open grave.
And watched them lower my darling mam
I would have given my life to save.
I knew my tears would not awaken
The remains in the silent clay,
So I laid my heart down beside her,
And sadly I walked away.
I cannot visit your grave to-day, mam.
It is so far away,
But I'll tie back again some day
And on it flowers I will lay.
-(Always remembered by her loving daughter Nell. Neil and grandchildren in Coventry).
