William appears to have been baptised twice once in Corsham England as a Protestant and later on his return to Cork Ireland as a Catholic.
Was put into orphanage by his mom on their return to Cork after Henry's death. At the age of 13-15 he ran away from the orphanage and went and joined the British army. He managed to fool them into thinking he was old enough as he was over six feet tall and well built.
The family in Cork never saw him until many many years later.
William spent a lot of time in India - Maisie Mulcahy

Ted said my Grandmother lived in India for 11 years when Grandpa was in the Army. Some of the children were born in India. My Mother was the eldest and has always talked about living in India. She had to help with the children and went to school there. Also picked up some of the language. Maybe that is where you came to a blank after Grandfather left Ireland. - Helena Kent 12 Jan 2005
During his travels he met Paddy Hartnett who happened to know the Clothiers (Lizzie & Mary) from Patricks Arch, Paddy's Mom was a Nora Hor(i)gan too but not our one. During the conversation it sparked William's interest in his family and he later visited them there.
(Paddy Hartnett is listed in the 31 Mar 1901 census as living at 8 St Patricks Arch with his Father Patrick 37, Labourer Egg Packer and Mother Nora 40, Fowl Plucker. He is aged 15 and a Labourer Egg Packer).
William was later stationed in Collins Barracks. He had a good friend Jock Green, from Belfast who served in the Navy.
Later in life after his retirement he moved to Windsor England. Where he died, he was old when he died.
Gran (Hannah Felton), Mom (Eily Mulcahy) and all of us went to to visit his (William Clothier's) address as his wife (Lena Venn) was still living there, but even though it appears that she may have been in she did not answer the door, (Gran could see the curtains moving and someone peering out from behind them), this would have been in the late 60's.
A neighbour said that her daughter looks after her.
