TRANSCRIPT OF THE TRIAL OF HUGH KENNEY, AGED 33, LIMERICK, 10 JULY 1848: LIMERICK ASSIZES (COURT) The said Hugh Kennedy was, with William Ready and James Ryan, indicated for burglary in the house of Patrick Ryan. First Witness, Patrick Ryan, who lives at Brittas: "On March 21, about 12 o'clock, I was alarmed by my wife. The outer door of the house was broken, a man came into my room, within face blackened and a gun. Another man came into my room with a candle and he was not disguised. The man with the gun then took my wife's pocket and broke a small box and took Two Pounds in notes, and seventeen shillings in silver, and also table clothes and shirts. They staid in the house about an hour and a half." (Witness then identifies Kennedy and Ryan and also Reidy, who was blackened.) "They were the only persons who came into my room. A cloak was taken. I did not know the prisoners before. This was on Tuesday and I saw the prisoners Kennedy and Ryan on the Sunday after at the Police Office, but did not see Reidy until May 1."
