- My father spoke of an Uncle Sam who had a farm in the Bandon area. There was a daughter whose name I can't remember, she had a younger brother called Sonny who came out to us.
(Sonny went to Boston and stayed with James & Nellie Hornibrook -Matt.) He worked in Squires bacon factory, where he got a cut on his arm and died of blood poisoning. He was only a kid.-Tessie Hornibrook Oct 2004
Note Samuel failed to migrate on 19 Apr 1925. The pax manifest has his nearest relative in Ireland contact details as Mother, Lizzie Hornibrook, Moneens, Templemartin, Bandon Co Cork. We have his Mother as having died the month before and being buried in Brinny, 29 Mar 1925. It also shows that he was going to Chicago Illinois to stay with his sister Kathleen Hornibrook at Tierners Ave, Chicago, Ill. For this proposed trip he did was not issued with a visa. His father Samuel had died 22 Jul 1924. Perhaps the details on the Pax manifest were from the original booking and when his mother died he cancelled the trip.
On the Pax manifest below for the time he did travel it has his nearest relative in Ireland contact details as Brother, James Hornibrook, Moneens, Bandon Co Cork so it appears as if James inherited the farm. It also has Samuel originally heading to Chicago and staying with his Sister, Miss Annie Hornibrook, 2119 Turner Ave, Chicago Ill. Note this has been crossed out and replaced with Cousin, James Hornibrook, 112 Cambridge St, Cambridge, Mass..
