- BLARNEY PARISH RECORDS - BAPTISMS
Date - 8 Sep 1872; Child - Denis; Parents - Matthew Mulcahy & Mary Lyons; Sponsors - Thomas Murphy & Hannah O'Connell; Address - Knocknasuff, Blarney.
Knocknasuff ( the priest's handwriting is almost illegible, this is my best guess) is located 2 miles north of Blarney.
Whitechurch is a civil parish, recognised by the state as a unit of territory. It is part of the Catholic parish of Blarney. It is most likely the marriage and the first two baptisms took place in Whitechurch church, while that of Denis took place in Blarney (Waterloo) - there was no Catholic church in Blarney village until 1894.

Note:
Wedding cert has him as being of Full Age in Sep 1894 that would mean he was born at least 1873 or before. His entry in the Whitechurch burial register has his age at death as 63 this would mean he would have had to be born around 1877 that would have made him 17 at marriage. Try to get a birth cert. Have tried various records cant find him on any of the likely ones birth records or IGI

He died three weeks before His son Matthew. (Matthew died on 11 apr 1940) died on Good Friday 1940 at 3.00pm and was buried on Easter Sunday 1940. He was living in millfield cottages when he died. (Calendar check Good Friday 1940 was on 22 Mar and Easter Sunday was 24 Mar).
Entry in Whitechurch Burial Register has his DOD as 23 March 1940, which would have been Easter Saturday, I am more inclined to accept Eily Mulcahy's version as she was adamant it was Good Friday and that was without any idea or clue from other sources. James Mulcahy was the "signature of the person having responsibility for interment" in the Whitechurch cemetery register.
Denny had been having terrible pains in his stomach and the doctor saw him and told him he had to go to the South Infirmary straight away, he was taken off in an ambulance, this was about three days before he died. He had not been complaining at all about anything up till then, He was then operated on in the South Infirmary. Denis was a fat man with rosey red cheeks.
When Denis died at 3.00pm on Good Friday, he had only been in hospital for a short time and Matt was concerned that if he left his body there over the weekend the student doctor's would try and dissect his body so he had him removed as soon a possible and at 7.00pm he was in the church, that is why he was buried on Easter Sunday. The undertaker Stacey next to the church, in Blackpool, looked after the funeral arrangements.
He was very close to all of his sons and they all went out for drinks together and when he died he was a big loss to all of his sons.
At Denis' grave his son Matt left the main crowd and crouched on the surround of a grave and said "Dinny I will be joining you in three weeks time", all of his kids were crying at this statement.
Matt wanted to die, he had two nuns, (one sister Euphrasia from Saint Patricks incurables hospital had a lot of time for Matt, the used to read together), who used to come up to visit him during his illness and he asked them and the family to pray for his death and they joined the family at the side of his bed praying that God would take him soon.
Death Cert has cause of death as - Acute Cholecystitis, 1 Day, Peritonitis & Cardiac Failure.
Acute cholecystitis (Gallstones)
Alternative names
Cholecystitis - acute; Gallstones - acute cholecyctitis
Definition
Acute cholecystitis is a sudden inflammation of the gallbladder that causes severe abdominal pain.
Causes, incidence, and risk factors
In 90% of cases, acute cholecystitis is caused by gallstones in the gallbladder, which obstruct the duct leading from the gallbladder to the common bile duct (which drains into the intestine). Severe illness, alcohol abuse and, rarely, tumors of the gallbladder may also cause cholecystitis.
The trapped bile becomes concentrated and causes irritation and pressure build-up in the gallbladder. This can lead to bacterial infection and perforation. Attacks may follow a large or fatty meal.
Symptoms
The main symptom is abdominal pain -- particularly after a fatty meal -- that is located on the upper right side of the abdomen. Occasionally, nausea and vomiting or fever may occur.
Peritonitis is inflammation (often due to infection) of the peritoneum, which is a two-layered serous membrane covering both the surfaces of the organs that lie in the abdominal cavity and the inner surface of the abdominal cavity itself. Since it is frequently life-threatening, acute peritonitis is a medical emergency. The prognosis for untreated peritonitis is very poor.
