This marriage was solemnized between us, David Buckley & Catherine Twomey in the presence of us, Charles Dillon & Annie Buckley.
Used to train my father Tom Falvey in Boxing at the Sunny Side Club, also a Barber in Shandon street used to cut my hair - Matt Falvey
Davie and and Kitty got a peppercorn rent on a Property locally called Sheedy's house "the Slate House" that the Sheedy's owned which is located at the top of Fair Hill was three fields in from the top. The house cost 6 pence every twelve months rent.. It was four stories high, had 10 stables and they had every fruit you could mention growing in parts of the garden. The land stretched from Fair Hill to Spangle Hill. Davie and Donnie Twomey use to practice hurling up there Donnie used to hurl for the Glen and so did the youngest boy Joe Twomey. The Sheedy's were very well off and most of them took off to America. The Sheedy's mother used to have a driver drive her around in her a carriage and used to have her rosary beads out praying as she went around. The inside of the house was massive big entry hall and massive staircase and on every landing a grotto. The Buckley's had all of their furniture in one room it was that big. They lived there for years and then one of the Sheedy sons came back for the US and sold all the land Probably to the Council and the North Presentation convent and a Church and all the houses were put on the land and the big house was demolished. There was no electricity in the house and everyone had to use candles to get around the house at night. The Buckley's then got a corporation house around Fair Hill or Spangle hill.
Was a diabetic and was in the Mercy hospital for a few months before he died and had had a stroke and I think it was a combination of the two that killed him. - Eily Mulcahy

BUCKLEY (Cork): On January 29. 2001, peacefully, in the tender and loving care of the matron and staff of Powdermills Nursing Home. Ballincollig. DAVID SNR (Ex T.C. Cork Corporation and late Barber. Shandon Street, late St. Anne's H & F Club. Pres. Bord na nOg GAA, Pres. Sunnyside Boxing club, member Glen Rovers and St. Nick's), beloved husband of the late Catherine (nee Twomey). Upper Fair Hill and dear father of David, Margaret, Carrie. Kathleen and Tom. Deeply mourned by his loving family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, relatives and friends and especially John Wren. May he rest in peace. Reposing at Terence O'Connor Funeral Home, Shandon Street. Rosary and removal on this (Tuesday) evening at 7pm to the Church of the Resurrection, Farranree. Requiem Mass on tomorrow (Wednesday) al 11 am. Funeral afterwards to St Catherine's Cemetery Kilcully. [3]
