Obituary
Catherine (nee O'Connell) Crowley was born about January 1830 in County Cork, Ireland. She emigrated to America about 1850. She came with four sisters: Elizabeth O'Connell, who married Jerome Sullivan; Ellen O'Connell, who married John Faulkner; and Anna O'Connell, who married James Sonner. Except for Catherine, all the sisters married and lived in Cincinnati after they came to America. They may have come together on the same ship but this is not known.
Catherine was living in Colerain, in Hamilton County, Ohio by the time of the 1860 census. She had married John Crowley at St. Peter in Chains Cathedral on August 09, 1857, according to Hamilton County Court probate records. They had their first child, Julia, November 1859. Other children, Patrick (Jan 1862) and John (aka "JC" Crowley, b. Feb 1865) were born in Hamilton as well, as was Margaret or "Maggie". The family moved to Pendleton County about 1870.
Catherine was widowed when her husband John died Sept 1871 and she continued to raise her family on the farm in Bonars Precinct. Catherine died June 23, 1917 and was buried June 26, 1917 at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
