180 | Certified copy of an Entry of Birth Registration District Redruth. 1855 Birth in the Sub District of Camborne in the County of Cornwall. No, - 99 When and where born - Thirteenth May 1855, Trelowarren Street, Camborne. Name if any - William James, Sex - Boy. Name and Surname of Father - William James Rowe. Name, Surname and Maiden surname of Mother - Priscilla Matilda formerly Tippett. Occupation of Father - Farmer. Signature, description and residence of informant - W.J. Rowe, Father, Trelowarren Street, Camborne. When registered - Twenty second May 1855. Signature of Registrar - Thomas Hutchinson Registrar. England GRO Births Index Q 30 Jun 1855, William James Rowe, Redruth, Vol 5c, Page 310. William James Rowe (1855) was born to William James Rowe (1826) and Prisicilla Matilda Tippett on 13 May 1855 and Priscilla died in the Quarter ending 30 Sep 1857 aged approximately 27. Normally this occurs during child birth. As they had been married in 1854, I am supposing William James (1855) was the first born child, as he is named after the fathers father and then Priscilla had Nicholas who was named after her Father. Nicholas was Baptised in Gwinear on 15 Jul 1857 and I have now found GRO birth and death entries for him in the Sept Quarter 1857 the same Quarter that Priscilla died in. So I presume that they died within a few hours or days of each. As it appears there are no other children apart from William James (1855) and William James (1826) & Jane Stevens' children on the 1861 census, I presume that there were only two children to the first marriage. It is very unusual that records for Nicholas exist as people generally did not record such events, as births and then as deaths, unless the child survived for a significant period, so it is very rare that any record would have been created. This may indicate that Nicholas may have lived as much as the entire Quarter. The Death certificate for Priscilla may mention that she died as a result of complications of or during child birth and shed some light onto Nicholas' life. - Matt Falvey 6 Dec 2010 1861 Census of England Rg9/1585 Page 11 Parish of - Gwithian, Road, Street, &c, and No. or Name of House - Conor Downs. Mary Rowe, Wife, Mar, 71, , St Gwinear Cornwall. Elizabeth Lang, Servant, Unm, 22, General Servant, Devonshire. William Rowe, Servant, Unm, 16, Farm Servant in door, Camborne Cornwall. Note Williams place of birth here is listed as St Martin, when he was born in Falmouth. There are no William Rowe's with a Falmouth birth on the entire 1871 census and as this entry is in the Trenawin lane area the family has been there now for a long time. William children were mainly born in St Martins and I presume Mary may have given the details or Williams memory may have been failing and so St Martin was given instead of Falmouth. While I am speculating. the William Rowe "Servant" on this 1871 census is I am sure William James Rowe Born 1855 to William James Rowe (1826) and Priscilla Matilda Tippett. He appeared on the 1861 census with the step family - William James' (1826) new wife Jane Stevens and the then two new offspring Jane and James Stevens Rowe. It seems as the new family grew William James (1855)'s place in it may not have been as secure as the other children's and by 1871 we can see that he was out of the house with his grandfather and his new spouse. I think this isolation would have contributed to his decision 5 years later in 1876 to leave from Hayle and try his luck on his own in Australia - Matt Falvey 6 Dec 2010 Inwards Crew/Passenger manifest William J Rowe - London - Sydney 1 July 1876 Stamp (of)- Shipping Master's Department, Sydney - 1 JLY 1876 WEL (Initials) INWARDS LIST of the Crew and Passengers arrived in the Steam ship Lubra of London, Abraham Robertson Master. I don't know too much about my father's family, they never talked at all, I only know about my grandmother and we called her Mary Ellen, I didn't know she was called Lillian. John J Kearns was Thomas Knox's father and then she married Charles Knox. The other children were Knox's. I don't know what part of Ireland the Kearns came from if indeed they did come from Ireland. I lived with my Grandmother until, she died, I was 13 and then I went back to my family in 1943. I was close to Harry and Julia as they basically raised me. When I was young the adults never talked about the family in front of us, in fact they took great care not to mention anything about the family in front of us. I loved my Uncle Johnnie. I was very fortunate as I was raised as an only child I was raised by my grandmother, my Uncle Harry, my Auntie Julia and my Uncle Jimmy. I had the best of everything I didn't even realise that we had a depression in the 1930's they were so good to me. Lives with Joe who is from Malta. Lillian has lived in Jackson Heights since 1957. We knew the day before Mary died that she had died. The day before we received the telegram, a picture fell off the wall and we all went into morning as Lizzie said someone in the family has died in Ireland. They woke me up, they were all crying and the next day we had the news from Ireland that she had died. Willie (Felton) he was a crabby one, I really think he was a woman hater he only liked horses and dogs. Lizzie and Julie were both sensitive to any type of premonition, it runs in the family, they seem to know if some one is dieing . Why did Lizzie bring you up? Because my Dad, at the time my mother was carrying Mary Lou my sister, and my Dad was working on the Railroad and he lost his thumb. It was caught in the train and he had a life time job if he wanted it but he didn't want it he had itchy feet and he wanted to go so he said to my Mother I am going to get out of Boston and I am going to go to upstate New York, to see what I can do. So that is what he did he left Boston and he went up to New York state. Well my Grandmother, Julie, Harry and all rest of the family were all here in New York and my Grandmother being worried about my mother having the other baby said, you see there was only eleven months between my sister Lou and I, so she said why don't you let me take care Lillian so it will be a little easier on you. Well needless to say my mother had four babies in four years and she had her hands full, so my Grandmother said why don't you leave Lillian here and the next thing I was starting school and that's it. When my mother came to visit she used to come to us next to the church in the Bronx, the family moved to New York my Aunt Julia told me we moved to the Bronx when I was five, I started first grade there and you had to be 6 to start 1st grade. I have a baby picture of me still in Somerville Boston in 1932, so it was after that. My Mother worked for a Dr Parkin in Somerville and I was born in his house. My fathers family are all from Boston and they are still there. - Lillian Knox 30 Mar 2006 Strange to see that Lillian is included on her parents 1940 Schenectady Census as living there, when in fact she was living with her grand mother Elizabeth Felton (Clothier) at 639 138St. Bronx and is included on Lizzie's census as being there. 195 | Lived around Gurranabraher. The family moved to England in 1959 Daniel died about two or three years ago he was about 78 i'd say, he died in England, he was there for a long time as far as I know there were all over there all around each other I'm sure. Daniel and Mary Wall split up in Ireland, she went to England too , she was originally from Donoughmore. I haven't seen her for about 50 years Hi Matthew, Joan is my Mother and her Father (my Grandfather) was Daniel Falvey who was at one point married to my nanny Mary of her maiden name I am not sure, but divorced when I was very small. Mary then moved back to Ireland, Daniel then stayed living in Tamworth, with (as Adults) my mother Joan (died 20th Sep 2004), My Auntie Mary and my Uncle Pat. I don't want to go on too much but if this information is what you need or want then I hope I have helped or if you need anything else please get in touch, if this is not what you want then I am sorry to waste your time. I would be able to confirm Mary maiden name at a later date. Sharon e-mail through genesreunited Daniel came to England and my Mom got dashed off being left in Ireland with the kids in Ireland so she came to England and said she was not going back. so he bought a house and brought us all over to England and then we found out that they had split up. She stayed in England for quite a while she was in England when my sister got killed and then she went back to Ireland and she wasn't in Ireland two weeks before she collapsed and died. Dad never remarried. Mary Falvey Devey Photocopy of Births Registered in the District of Cork register page Superintendent Registrar's District Cork, Registrar's District No 2. His story of these visits told to me when I was a boy, came to mind towards the end of my research and I had a look at Falvey's in Douglas and there was only one family there. Within a couple of hours I managed to trace them back to Blarney Street on the North Side of the City and to establish and confirm the link between their branch James born 17 Oct 1829 and my branch his Brother of Denis born 21 May 1826 both children of John Falvey born 15 Oct 1778 and Mary Ahern. What I did find particularly interesting was the accuracy of the story and the amount of it that could be corroborated as my father seemed to have an allergy to telling the truth. Dad said he used to visit 2 Uncles in Douglas, he was born in 1928 so would have had to have been 8+ before he would have started to head over there alone, I presume he would have gone alone as that way he wouldn't have to share the pennies with anyone else), that would have been about 1932 on. Margaret Falvey was working in the Mill and accounts from people that new the family say that Tom worked as a Head Mason and the others did not really work much at all. Denny did a little cooking and Timmy never really worked. So conceivably when Dad went over their the only two likely to be at home were Denny and Timmy. - Matt Falvey Jan 2010. Hi Matt, I just got some information for you but not much. Frank Downey aged 80 next birthday still lives in Douglas West and is wheelchair bound. He knew Tim and Tom Falvey and Maggie Falvey, a weaver, possibly a sister. Mrs O'Brien- Maggie Halloran lived next door to Frank it may have been no 7 or 12 (The numbers of the houses have changes). She was a great neighbour. The Falvey's were her uncles and she looked after them in their old age. Maggie's son was John O'Brien. Maggie went to live in Grange Park. She died and her husband Paddy died. Pat McSweeney is the caretaker of the graveyard nest to St' Columba's Church and he can be contacted at Marian Terrace ( no number given) Grange Road. some books relating to the graveyard are still in existence. Not much there . I've take some photos and I'll try and attach the to the email. I having a bit of trouble sending them. Thankfully I was not effected by the floods but at the moment we are in the grip of a freeze and it's hard to get about.
